That is to say, an athletics program is gender equitable when the men's sports program would be pleased to accept as its own, the overall participation, opportunities, and resources currently allocated to the women's sports program and vice versa." As defined by NACWAA in 1992...

July 2008 Committee on Women's Athletics Update

At its July meeting, the Committee on Women’s Athletics forwarded to the Divisions I, II and III Management Councils a request for legislation to add sand volleyball to the NCAA emerging sports for women list. It also forwarded a recommendation to add equestrian to the DIII list (equestrian is currently on the DI and DII lists only). In addition, the CWA forwarded proposals to all three divisions to remove archery, badminton, synchronized swimming and team handball from the NCAA emerging sports for women list. Squash, which is currently on the list and is a varsity sport at 28 NCAA colleges and universities, submitted a plan for growing the number of schools that sponsor the sport. The plan was accepted by the CWA, which also plans to assist in growing the sport.
